After the 100th anniversary of Ellen White's death
it would be well to take a look
at some of the things she said and wrote.

Further Reading Concerning Ellen White.

The Seventh-day Adventist church teaches the following
very sound Biblical doctrines:

1. God is the Loving, Omnipotent, Eternal, Sovereign Creator of the Universe.
2. The Trinity includes God the Father, Jesus the Son, and The Holy Spirit.
3. The Bible is the inspired Word of God.
4. Jesus Christ is God. He has existed with God the Father from all eternity.
5. Jesus' death on the Cross for our sins is our only way to Heaven.
6. Jesus rose from the dead, ascended to Heaven, and is our Advocate.
7. Jesus will return to Earth in a visible, personal, imminent Second Advent.
8. Man was created sinless, but by his fall entered into sin and depravity.
9. Man is justified by faith alone.
10. There will be a judgment. Jesus is the Judge.
11. Believers are baptized by emersion in water.
12. 7th Day of Rest in memorial of Creation is appropriate.
13. The dead are really dead.

These doctrines qualify the SDA church
as a mainstream Christian denomination.

The church also believes that they have the
Spirit of Prophecy
in the person and writings of Ellen White.

Unfortunately, the belief in and adherence to a person,
tends to place the church into the category of a cult.

The following sections list some of the problem areas
caused by this belief.

Will print on one 8 1/2 X 11 page.

Ellen White states in the Great Controversy page 304,
(originally published in 1888)
The revelator thus describes the first of the signs to precede the second advent: "There was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood." Revelation 6:12.

These signs were witnessed before the opening of the nineteenth century. In fulfillment of this prophecy there occurred, in the year 1755, the most terrible earthquake that has ever been recorded. Though commonly known as the earthquake of Lisbon, it extended to the greater part of Europe, Africa, and America.

The Lisbon Earthquake was approximately 8.7 on the Richter scale. It killed about 50,000 people.

However, there was a deadlier earthquake in 1556 in Shaanxi, China which was estimated at 8.0 and killed about 825,000 people. And Jesus will be coming back to Earth to redeem the Chinese people, not just the Europeans.

And there were 6 larger earthquakes that occured between 1611 and 1833 in Japan, Chile, Pacific Ocean, Japan again, Kingdom of Mrauk U (Bangladesh), and Sumatra that registered from 8.8 to 9.2.

So the Lisbon Earthquake, while having a greater impact in the Europe/America/Africa region, was NOT the most terrible earthquake.

It should also be noted that Ellen White wrote, "that has ever been recorded."

While it may be true that these larger earthquakes may not have been recorded by Europeans, they were nevertheless recorded in their own countries. And God surely knew of these much larger earthquakes.

Ellen White continues on page 306,
Twenty-five years later appeared the next sign mentioned in the prophecy the darkening of the sun and moon ... On the 19th of May, 1780, this prophecy was fulfilled ... May 19, 1780, stands in history as "The Dark Day." Since the time of Moses no period of darkness of equal density, extent, and duration, has ever been recorded.

Wikipedia states the following about this "Dark Day" - According to Professor Samuel Williams of Harvard College, the darkness was seen at least as far north as Portland, Maine, and extended southwards to New Jersey. The darkness was not witnessed in Pennsylvania ... This extraordinary darkness came on between the hours of 10 and 11 am and continued till the middle of the next night.

This "Dark Day" was very localized and only about two days long. Hardly what one would consider as, "...no period of darkness of equal density, extent, and duration, has ever been recorded."

On page 308 of Great Controversy
Ellen White quotes Luke 21:28-31 in which Jesus compares Spring shoots pointing towards Summer with signs in the sun moon and stars pointing towards His Kingdom being near.

As of 2019:
It has been 264 years since the Lisbon Earthquake.
It has been 239 years since the "Dark Day."

This does not seem like Spring into Summer...

On page 333 of Great Controversy
Ellen White continues, "In 1833 ... the last of the signs appeared which were promised by the Saviour as tokens of His second advent. Said Jesus: 'The stars shall fall from heaven.' Matthew 24:29 ... This prophecy received a striking and impressive fulfillment in the great meteoric shower of November 13, 1833. That was the most extensive and wonderful display of falling stars which has ever been recorded; 'the whole firmament, over all the United States, being then, for hours, in fiery commotion!' "

Scientifically, these are known as the Leonid Meteor Showers, and they occur about every 33 or 34 years in the month of November. Historically there were impressive meteor displays recorded in the following years:
902 A.D.
934 A.D.
967 A.D.

There are not records of EVERY display, but the above dates show that the 33 / 34 year interval is well established.

The Leonid Shower of 1966 was greater than the 1833 shower with 144,000 per hour calculated compared with 100,000 per hour estimated in 1833!

And right after these "falling stars" Jesus did NOT return "on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory."

So, none of those Leonid Meteor Showers was the sign Jesus was talking about in Matthew 24:29-31.

It would seem that the 1755 Lisbon Earthquake, the 1780 Dark Day, and the 1833 Falling Stars, were not the signs Jesus was talking about in Luke 21. It would appear that these signs are still future ... and that Ellen White was not correct in ANY of those statements.

In another book Ellen White makes the following statement:

In a view given June 27, 1850, my accompanying angel said, "Time is almost finished"... "Get ready, get ready, get ready."... I saw that those who of late have embraced the truth would have to know what it is to suffer for Christ's sake... Said the angel, "...But now time is almost finished, and what we have been years learning, they will have to learn in a few months."

Early Writings, pages 64-67
(written in June 1850)

The context of this statement is undeniable. New converts will have to learn the doctrines in a "few months" because "now time is almost finished." The reduction in learning time is not because new converts are smarter than the older ones, nor is it because the Adventists developed an accelerated learning course. No, the context clearly states the reason they will have to learn quickly: "time is almost finished."

What is a reasonable definition of the phrase a few months? Three? Five? If your friend called you up and said, "I'll be over to visit in a few months" - when would you expect her? Three or four months, perhaps six at the most? As of June in the year 2019 it has been about two thousand and twenty eight months since Mrs. White said only a "few months" remained! Surely she wasn't saying there were "years" or "decades" left, because she said that what earlier converts had learned in "years", recent converts would have to learn in "months."

Here we see that Ellen White said her accompanying angel told her that time was almost finished "in a few months" from June of 1850. It didn't happen!

Ellen White was not correct in these statements.

Ellen White made the following statement
in her book, Selected Messages:

I was shown in vision, and I still believe, that there was a shut door in 1844. All who saw the light ... and rejected that light, were left in darkness.

Vol. 1 Selected Messages, page 63.
(written in 1858)

Then again in Early Writings:

The preaching of definite time called forth great opposition from all classes, from the minister in the pulpit down to the most reckless, heaven-daring sinner. "No man knoweth the day nor the hour," was heard from the hypocritical minister and the bold scoffer. Neither would be instructed and corrected by those who were pointing to the year when they believed the prophetic periods would run out, and to the signs which showed Christ near, even at the doors. Many shepherds of the flock, who professed to love Jesus, said that they had no opposition to the preaching of Christ's coming, but they objected to the definite time. God's all-seeing eye read their hearts. They did not love Jesus near.

Early Writings, page 233.
(published in 1882)

Also in Spirit of Prophecy:

After the passing of the time of expectation, in 1844, Adventists still believed the Saviour's coming to be very near ... the work of Christ as man's intercessor before God, had ceased. Having given the warning of the Judgment near, they felt that their work for the world was done, and they lost their burden of soul for the salvation of sinners ... All this confirmed them in the belief that probation had ended, or, as they then expressed it, "the door of mercy was shut."

Vol. 4 Spirit of Prophecy, page 268.
(published in 1884)

Ellen White and the Adventists
did not spread the Gospel for seven years.

And they derided those who did spread the Gospel,
but didn't believe in their time-setting.

And then the Adventists claimed that
those who did spread the Gospel,
did not love Jesus.

This is unbelievable ... but it did happen!

Jesus said in John 15:12, "This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you." Then He repeated it again in John 15:17, "This I command you, that you love one another."

Did Ellen White demonstrate this love for her fellow man when she said, "No man knoweth the day nor the hour," was heard from the hypocritical minister and the bold scoffer. ?

Joseph Bates
1792 - 1872
was an American seaman and revivalist minister.
He was the founder and developer of Sabbatarian Adventism,
a strain of religious thinking that evolved into the SDA Church.
Bates is also credited with convincing
James White and Ellen G. White
of the validity of the seventh-day Sabbath.*

* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Bates_(Adventist)

Joseph Bates was early pushing observance of the seventh-day Sabbath. He had considerable difficulty in convincing Mrs. White about this and she did not start keeping the seventh day until 1846 - two years after her first vision.

Joseph Bates had considerable reservations concerning Mrs. White's inspiration for quite some time as she was rather slow to accept the seventh-day Sabbath doctrine.** However he was finally convinced of her claims when he observed her having a vision about planets. During this she mistakenly describes the wrong number of moons for Jupiter... Her husband James White was also present and the three of them must have discussed the vision later. Mrs. White did not give any hint that the planet she saw might not be Jupiter. Adventists try to excuse this blatant error by saying that Mrs. White didn't call it Jupiter but Joseph Bates did. Joseph Bates was a sea captain and an astronomer, obviously he was very impressed by this vision.

When Ellen White said, "I see four moons," Joseph Bates excitedly said, "She is viewing Jupiter."*** It has long been known that Jupiter has many more moons than four, but in those days it was believed that Jupiter did have only four moons. Certainly God hasn't added extra moons since that time. Nor does it seem reasonable that God would give someone an erroneous vision to convince one man of a prophet's integrity. God would realize that many people later would examine the evidence and use this in part as a basis for their decision. I do not believe that God would use a lie to convince one man that she was truly having visions only to have that lie used later to convince many others that she is a false prophet.****

** Here is what Ellen White says about meeting Joseph Bates: "While on a visit to New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1846, I became acquainted with Elder Joseph Bates... The first time he heard me speak, he manifested deep interest. After I had ceased speaking he arose and said, 'I am a doubting Thomas. I do not believe in visions. But if I could believe the testimony the sister has related tonight was indeed the voice of God to us, I should be the happiest man alive. My heart is deeply moved. I believe the speaker to be sincere, but cannot explain in regard to her being shown the wonderful things she has related to us.'"

1880 - Life Sketches of
James White and Ellen G. White, page 236

If Ellen White had truly seen a vision of Jupiter,
how much more astounding would it have been to say,
"I see four LARGE moons and many other smaller moons
that are not visible with our present telescopes."

This would have impressed Joseph Bates even more,
and would still have rung true in 1892
when the 5th moon Amalthea was discovered.
It would still ring true in 2014 when over 60 moons are known,
and it would still be true in the future
if even more moons are discovered.

Before Ellen died in 1915,
Jupiter was known to have 9 moons.

Here is the actual quote regarding the "Astronomy" vision
written in 1846 or 1847, from 1 BIO chapter 7, pages 113-114:

Actually, during the vision, wholly unbeknown to her, she spoke of what was passing before her. J.N. Loughborough recounted in print the description of the meeting as Bates told it to him:

Mrs. White, while in vision, began to talk about the stars, giving a glowing description of rosy-tinted belts which she saw across the surface of some planet, and added, "I see four moons."

"Oh," said Elder Bates, "she is viewing Jupiter!" Then having made motions as though traveling through space, she began giving a description of belts and rings in their ever-varying beauty, and said, "I see seven moons."

Elder Bates exclaimed, "She is describing Saturn."

Next came the description of Uranus, with its six moons; then a wonderful description of the "opening heavens," with its glory, calling it an opening into a region more enlightened. Elder Bates said that her desription far surpassed any account of the opening heavens he had ever read from any author...

Ellen White reported of this experience in the Curtis home:

After I came out of vision I related what I had seen. Elder Bates then asked if I had studied astronomy. I told him I had no recollection of ever looking into an astronomy. (sic)

Said he, "This is of the Lord."

I never saw him as free and happy before. His countenance shone with the light of heaven, and he exhorted the church with power.

A few months later James White wrote:

At our conference in Topsham, Maine, last November, Ellen had a vision of the handiworks of God. She was guided to the planets Jupiter, Saturn,
and I think one more...

The eighth moon of Saturn was discovered in 1848.
The ninth moon was discovered in 1899.
Both during Ellen White's lifetime.

In 1846 Joseph Bates a retired sea captain wrote in his book

"Then the Sabbath begins precisely at 6 o'clock on Friday evening,
every where on this globe,
and ends at the same period on what we call Saturday evening."

He learned of the Sabbath from a Millerite preacher named Thomas M Preble who was a Baptist minister. Preble accepted the Sabbath in 1844, and is thought to have learned it from a Seventh-day Baptist woman named Rachel Oakes.

In 1847 Ellen White writes in her book, EARLY WRITINGS on page 32, "I saw an angel flying swiftly to me. He quickly carried me from the earth to the Holy City. In the city I saw a temple, which I entered... In the holiest I saw an ark... In the ark was... the tables of stone... Jesus opened them, and I saw the ten commandments written on them with the finger of God... the fourth, the Sabbath commandment, shone above them all; for the Sabbath was set apart to be kept in honor of God's holy name."

Ellen White and the new church kept the Sabbath from 6:00 pm to 6:00 pm for nine years, from 1846 until 1855. In 1855 Ellen White had a vision and the angel said to her, "From even unto even, shall ye celebrate your Sabbath." Said the angel: "Take the word of God, read it, understand, and ye cannot err. Read carefully, and ye shall there find what even is, and when it is." I asked the angel if the frown of God had been upon His people for commencing the Sabbath as they had... I inquired why it had been thus, that at this late day we must change the time of commencing the Sabbath. Said the angel: "Ye shall understand, but not yet, not yet."

Notice a number of things:
In 1847 Ellen White says an angel took her to heaven and showed her the 10 commandments. The Sabbath commandment shone with a heavenly light. The angel didn't tell her that the Sabbath began at evening, because this is told in the Bible. Ellen and the new church keep the Sabbath at the wrong times for 9 years. Then when it is realized that the Sabbath began and ended at evening (sundown) and Ellen asks the angel why this has happened, the angel replies in King James era English, "Ye shall understand, but not yet."

I will give you three definitions of PHRENOLOGY
with their reference URLs.
Then I will present Ellen White's quotes about PHRENOLOGY
in the order they were published.
I will mark key words in bold type,
and underlining.

At the very end, I will give you an excerpt from the WHITE ESTATE
attempting to explain why Ellen White went to a PHRENOLOGIST,
followed by my brief comment.

PHRENOLOGY is the science which studies the relationships between a person's character and the morphology (the study of the form of things) of the skull. It is a very ancient object of study.

PHRENOLOGY is a pseudoscience primarily focused on measurements of the humam skull, based on the concept that the brain is the organ of the mind, and that certain brain areas have localized, specific functions or modules. Developed by German physician Franz Joseph Gall in 1796, the discipline was very popular...from about 1810 until 1840.

So it was believed that by examining the shape and unevenness of a head or skull, one could discover the development of the particular cerebral "organs" responsible for different intellectual aptitudes and character traits.

For example, a prominent protruberance in the forehead at the position attributed to the organ of Benevolence was meant to indicate that the individual had a "well developed" organ of Benevolence and would therefore be expected to exhibit benevolent behaviour.

"I have been shown that we must...resist the...devices of Satan ... The science of phrenology, psychology, and mesmerism are the channel through which he comes more directly to this generation and works with that power which is to characterize his efforts near the close of probation."

Testimonies vol 1. page 290

"Phrenology and mesmerism are very much exalted. They are good in their place, but they are seized upon by Satan as his most powerful agents to deceive and destroy souls."

Testimonies vol 1. page 296

"I was directed to this scripture as especially applying to modern spiritualism: Colossians 2:8: 'Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.'

Thousands, I was shown, have been spoiled through the philosophy of phrenology and animal magnetism, and have been driven into infidelity. If the mind commences to run in this channel, it is almost sure to lose its balance and be controlled by a demon."

MR No. 404 - Regarding Examinations at Dansville

"I think Dr. Jackson gave an accurate account of the disposition and organization of our children. He pronounces Willie's head to be one of the best that has ever come under his observation. He gave a good description of Edson's character and peculiarities. He enjoined upon him outdoor exercise and not much study. I think this examination will be worth everything to Edson."

Basic Rules of Interpretation--Internal

Rule Five: Recognize the possibility of imprecise expressions. In 1861 Ellen White penned a thought that seems inconsistent with later statements on the same subject: "Phrenology and mesmerism are very much exalted. They are good in their place, but are seized upon by Satan as his most powerful agents to deceive and destroy souls." In an 1884 Signs article, she wrote: "The sciences which treat of the human mind are very much exalted. They are good in their place; but they are seized upon by Satan as his powerful agents to deceive and destroy souls." Obviously, in this 1884 statement we [p.390] have an editorial correction in the thought that Ellen White wanted conveyed regarding "the sciences which treat of the human mind." Possibly the 1861 statement referring to phrenology and mesmerism was a printer's error.

So the White Estate is saying that when Ellen White made a wrong statement, it was a printer's error. But then it wasn't corrected for TWENTY THREE YEARS. And the original statement is still in the original book which is still being published and sold.

Read again Ellen White's quotes
and her letter to the Lockwoods!

In her book, Great Controversy page 425,
Ellen White makes this statement,
"Those who are living upon the earth when the
intercession of Christ shall cease in the sanctuary above
are to stand in the sight of a holy God
without a mediator."

In Hebrews 7:25 the Bible says this,
"Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost
those who come to God through Him,
since He always lives to make intercession for them."

"Their robes must be spotless,
their characters must be purified from sin
by the blood of sprinkling.
Through the grace of God and their own diligent effort
they must be conquerors in the battle with evil."

Isaiah 64:6, "But we are all as an unclean thing,
and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags..."

On page 648 she makes this further statement,
"These are they which came out of great tribulation;
they have passed through the time of trouble such as never was
since there was a nation;
they have endured the anguish of the time of Jacob's trouble;
they have stood without an intercessor
through the final outpouring of God's judgments."

"Jacob's Time of Trouble...(is) the experience of Jacob,
when through the dark night he wrestled with God,
pleading for assurance of safety from the hand of Esau his brother.
(See Genesis chapter 32)
As Jacob did in fact have a mediator
to cover his errant yet penitent life,
so will the saints in the final time of trouble have a mediator
to cover their errant yet penitent lives."

Scripture Over Tradition
by Edmund Rogol, Hillsboro, Oregon

When you read all the elaborate explanations from the SDA church trying to justify what Ellen White meant in these statements, you can see that possibly she didn't mean that we must stand alone on this Earth without any help from Jesus.

But for a young person reading these statements, her words are terrifying! Take it from one who knows, from one who lived in dread for many years as a result of contemplating these depressing hopeless statements.

"When sin has been repented of, confessed, and forsaken,
then pardon is written against the sinner's name;

The following "vision" of Ellen White is recorded in Spiritual Gifts Vol 2 and Testimonies Vol 1

A conference was held at Battle Creek in May, 1856 ... I was shown the company present at the Conference. Said the angel: "Some food for worms ... some subjects of the seven last plagues, some will be alive and remain upon the earth to be translated at the coming of Jesus."
Solemn words were these, spoken by the angel.

Spiritual Gifts vol 2 pages 207-208 (1860)
Testimonies vol 1 pages 131-132 (1868)
(emphasis ours)

As of 2019, it has been 163 years since this "vision" - The seven last plagues have NOT fallen - And NONE of those present at that 1856 conference are still alive to be translated to heaven without seeing death.

So what was this "vision"
"spoken by the angel"

And why would an angel tell Ellen White
something that contradicts the Bible?

The Bible clearly states:
"But of that day and hour no one knows,
not even the angels of heaven,
nor the Son, but the Father alone.
For the coming of the Son of Man
will be just like the days of Noah."

Matthew 24:36-37
(emphasis ours)

In order for an angel to be able to tell Ellen White that Some will be alive and remain upon the earth to be translated at the coming of Jesus... the angel would have to know that Jesus would come before 1937 when the last of those present, William White, died.

And that would contradict the Bible.

The White Estate claims this was a "conditional" prophecy. On the website, "whiteestate.org," Roger W. Coon states, "...the last known survivor (at the 1856 meeting) died in 1937 at the age of 83. His name was William C. White, and he was a babe in arms at the time his mother, Ellen White, made the prediction."

He then goes on to explain that Jonah made a prediction that Nineveh would be overthrown in forty days. When this didn't happen, because the Ninevites repented in sackcloth and ashes, Jonah was quite angry.

Roger Coon then comes back to the 1856 prophecy. He relates that a list was compiled of all those in attendance at the meeting. Two ministers took the list to Ellen White so she could see if they had left anyone out.

Ellen White reportedly said, "...stop right where you are. If they get that list, instead of working to push the Message, they will be watching the Review each week to see who is dead."

Roger concludes, "Was the conditional element explicit in the angel's testimony to Ellen White in the 1856 vision? No. But then, neither was the conditional element explicit in the testimony of Jonah as he trudged through the city of Nineveh."

Well I would say YES. If you read the last chapter of the book of Jonah you will see that Jonah DID know there was a condition to the prophecy he was to give to the Ninevites because in Jonah 4:2 he basically says to God, "Isn't this what I said would happen while I was still at home? That's why I ran away to Tarshish, because I knew You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness."

This shows that Jonah knew his prophecy was conditional. And most likely he prophesied it thus.

I then looked through the chapter of Testimonies that contains this 1856 prophecy to see if there was anything conditional about it. The chapter deals with how God's people should attire themselves and be separate from the world. I found nothing that seemed to be a condition for the statement Ellen White made.

Compare everything said in this section with what Jesus said in Matthew 16:1-12.

If a prophecy that does not come true can be said to be conditional, then ALL the prophets can be said to be true prophets. Muhammad, Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce, Jeane Dixon, Joseph Smith, Mary Baker Eddy, David Koresh.

This prophecy was not conditional.
Ellen White was not a true prophet
(or Messenger).

Ellen White's view of some slaves...

"God cannot take to heaven the slave
who has been kept in ignorance and degradation,
knowing nothing of God or the Bible,
fearing nothing but his master's lash,
and holding a lower position than the brutes."

Early Writings page 276 (1882)

Ellen White's view of some savages...

"The Holy Spirit has implanted the grace of Christ
in the heart of the savage,
quickening his sympathies contrary to his nature,
contrary to his education."

Christ's Object Lessons page 385 (1900)

The Bible's view of Every Man...

"In the beginning was the Word...
...the true Light, which lights
every man
that comes into the world."

John 1:1+9

Please note that the CONFUSION ends with the Bible's statement that Jesus lights every man that comes into the world.

Ellen White continued her string of failed predictions
in the book Spiritual Gifts (1864)
when she wrote:

"The human family was presented before me, enfeebled. Every generation has been growing weaker, and disease of every form visits the human race. Thousands of poor mortals are dragging out a miserable existence. Some with deformed, sickly bodies, shattered nerves, and gloomy minds. Satan's power upon the human family increases. If the Lord should not soon come and destroy his power, the earth would soon be depopulated."

Spiritual Gifts vol 4 page 94

In 1864 she said the earth would "soon" be depopulated. Did that happen soon after 1864? Well, by 1900 the earth's population had soared to 1.6 billion people. Today there are close to 7 billion. By 2050 there may be over 9 billion people on the planet. Because of better nutrition, advances in medicine, and improved living conditions, each generation is living longer, healthier, stronger, and taller. Diseases which once ravaged mankind have been eliminated or rendered harmless by powerful medications. Sadly, all that Ellen White could foresee in the future was darkness, disease, and death. Had she truly had divine foresight she would never have made this statement.

Now THIS is a conditional prophecy. "IF the Lord should not come soon ... the earth would soon be depopulated." The condition was met. The Lord did not come soon. So the prophecy HAD to come true. The world HAD to be depopulated. Or else the prophet was NOT TRUE.

August 1, 1866 - Duty to Know Ourselves

"It is a sin to be sick;
for all sickness is the result of transgression.
Many are suffering in consequence
of the transgression of their parents."

Job 2:3-7

"The Lord said to Satan,
'Have you considered My servant Job?
For there is no one like him on earth,
a perfect and upright man,
one who fears God and turns away from evil...'
Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord
and smote Job with sore boils
from the sole of his feet to the crown of his head."

Job was perfect and upright, feared God,
and turned away from evil.
But he still got sick.

John 9:1-3

"...And His disciples asked Him saying,
'Master, who did sin, this man or his parents,
that he was born blind?'
Jesus answered, 'Neither has this man sinned,
nor his parents:
but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.'"

Chapter 7 - Marriage and United Labors (page 80)

"...On our return I was taken very sick, and suffered extremely.
My parents, husband and sisters,
united in prayer for me;
but I suffered on for three weeks."

"God loves honest-hearted, truthful children,
but cannot love those who are dishonest."

An Appeal to the Youth page 42.

"The Lord loves those little children who try to do right, and he has promised that they shall be in his kingdom. But wicked children God does not love. He will not take them to the beautiful City, for he only admits the good, obedient, and patient children there."

An Appeal to the Youth page 61.

"When you feel tempted to speak impatient and fretful, remember the Lord sees you, and will not love you if you do wrong."

An Appeal to the Youth page 61.

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Romans 5:8

"Love your enemies"

Luke 6:27

The White Estate tries to justify these statements by pointing out that later on she said, "Jesus would have the fathers and mothers teach their children ... that God loves them, that their natures may be changed, and brought into harmony with God. Do not teach your children that God does not love them when they do wrong; teach them that He loves them so that it grieves His tender Spirit to see them in transgression, because He knows they are doing injury to their souls. Do not terrify your children by telling them of the wrath of God, but rather seek to impress them with His unspeakable love and goodness, and thus let the glory of the Lord be revealed before them."

Signs of the Times, February 15, 1892

If Ellen White did not mean to say
that God does not love wicked children,
then why did she repeat it THREE TIMES!?

"There are those who ought to be awake to the danger of meat eating, who are still eating the flesh of animals, thus endangering the physical, mental, and spiritual health."

Review and Herald - May 27, 1902

"And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook."

1 Kings 17:6

(Note that the original Hebrew for flesh
does not mean generic food.
It is the Hebrew word basar
which means flesh of animals.)

Why would God choose to destroy "the physical, mental, and spiritual health" of his prophet by feeding him meat? Couldn't God just as easily have commanded the ravens to bring Elijah carrots and cucumbers?

"Vegetables, fruits, and grains should compose our diet. Not an ounce of flesh-meat should enter our stomachs. The eating of flesh is unnatural. We are to return to God's original purpose in the creation of man."

Manuscript 115 - 1903
Counsels On Diets and Foods - page 380

Recently, vegetarian diets have experienced an increase in popularity. A vegetarian diet is associated with many health benefits because of its higher content of fiber, folic acid, vitamins C and E, potassium, magnesium, and many phytochemicals and a fat content that is more unsaturated. Compared with other vegetarian diets, vegan diets tend to contain less saturated fat and cholesterol and more dietary fiber. Vegans tend to be thinner, have lower serum cholesterol, and lower blood pressure, reducing their risk of heart disease. However, eliminating all animal products from the diet increases the risk of certain nutritional deficiencies. Micronutrients of special concern for the vegan include vitamins B-12 and D, calcium, and long-chain n-3 (omega-3) fatty acids. Unless vegans regularly consume foods that are fortified with these nutrients, appropriate supplements should be consumed. In some cases, iron and zinc status of vegans may also be of concern because of the limited bioavailability of these minerals. *

(emphasis mine)

Also we can "return to God's original purpose in the creation of man" only when we return to God's original Creation IN THE NEW EARTH! The antediluvian earth supported great quantities of vegetation that most likely was of a much higher quality than vegetation today.

Adventists try to say that the human body was designed to be vegetarian. This most likely WAS true in the Garden of Eden. But it is not true today. The human digestive system is much closer to that of a lion than that of a cow. We can go for a number of days without eating and not die, much like a lion. However we do NOT have multiple stomachs, we do NOT throw up our food and chew it some more, we do NOT spend 6 hours a day eating and 8 hours a day re-chewing our food, like cows do. We also do NOT have to eat our own excrement like some vegetarian animals do in order to get enough nourishment.

If the vegan diet is the perfect diet, then why do vegans HAVE TO take vitamin B-12 supplements in order to remain healthy?

Ellen White says in Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene page 46,
"Flesh-meats, butter, cheese, rich pastry, spiced foods, and condiments are freely partaken of by both old and young. These things do their work in deranging the stomach, exciting the nerves, and enfeebling the intellect. The blood-making organs cannot convert such things into good blood."

CTBH 46.3

Modern science says that the health benefits of vitamin B-12 are:
* Protection against heart disease.
* Protection and repair of DNA to reduce cancer risk and to slow aging.
* Protection against dementia and cognitive decline.
* Protection against Alzheimer's Disease.
* Helps energy and endurance.

"Adequate levels of vitamins B-12, B-6, and B-9 have been shown to lower levels of a protein in the blood: homocysteine. Lower levels of homocysteine has been shown to improve endothelial function, which in turn may boost cardiovascular health and decrease risk of heart attacks."

see: www.healthaliciousness.com

Another website says, "For most U.S. adults, the risk of dietary deficiency of vitamin B-12 is quite low."

"The only group where we see any substantial risk of dietary vitamin B-12 deficiency is in strict vegans (who consume no animal or fish foods whatsoever). In a group of 232 British vegans, most of whom were younger than age 50, a little more than half had biochemical evidence of dietary vitamin B-12 deficiency."

The healthiest foods rich in vitamin B-12 are:
SALMON = 236%
TUNA = 111%
COD = 109%
LAMB = 105%

For more info see: www.whfoods.com

These findings do not sound like, "The blood-making organs cannot convert such things into good blood."

Look closely at the above list of foods rich in vitamin B-12 and compare it to what Jesus ate when He was on Earth. During Passover Jesus undoubtedly ate lamb. And how could He pass up such an opportunity at the Last Supper to draw an object lesson about the lamb they were eating with His being the "Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." Also Jesus not only ate fish, but He performed several miracles with it (feeding of the 5000, casting net on the other side, etc.). He even prepared some fish for His disciples after His resurrection! See John 21:9-10. Adventists are hard-pressed to explain Jesus' "endangering the physical, mental, and spiritual health" of His own disciples!

Why Did God Permit Man to Eat Meat?

Read Genesis 9:1-3

This passage contains two commands for the post-diluvians.
1. "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth."
2. "Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you."

These are not recommendations for mankind.

These are commands and prescriptions
for life after the Flood.

After Creation God gave Adam vegetables and fruit to eat.
After the Flood God gave Noah animal flesh to eat.

These were two covenant periods
each with its covenant fellowship meal.

The Creation covenant through Adam
and the New World covenant through Noah
are for the entire world.

Other covenants, through Abraham, Moses, and David,
were limited and made for specific groups.

Personal choice vegetarianism may be a slap in the face of God.
Islam, Judaism, and Seventh-day Adventism
all reject some aspect of meat eating...
They are in rebellion against God's command. *

* see www.epctoronto.org/

Clifford Scott finds this last paragraph to be extreme.
The information from JR Hughes is provided
only to show that Ellen White's statement,
"The eating of flesh is unnatural."
is wrong.

We will not eat animal flesh in Heaven or the New Earth. This is made quite obvious in the biblical text found in Revelation 21:4, "... and there will no longer be any death"

When we have the Tree of Life to eat from,
what more could we ever need or want?

"One person has faith that he may eat all things,
but he who is weak eats only vegetables."

Romans 14:2

"Do you not understand
that everything that goes into the mouth
passes into the stomach, and is eliminated?
But the things that proceed out of the mouth
come from the heart,
and those defile the man."

Matthew 15:17-18

In the early 1800s a Baptist minister named William Miller began preaching that Jesus would return to Earth in 1843/1844. When that year came and went and Jesus had not come back, someone found an error in Miller's calculations and said that Jesus would return on October 22, 1844. His message was accepted by quite a following.

However, as you can probably guess by now,
Jesus did not return to Earth in 1844.
Pastor Miller then realized and admitted his mistake.

Matthew, Mark, and Luke
all state that no one knows
the day or the hour of Jesus Second Coming
(Matthew 24:36, Mark 13:32, Luke 21:34-36).

When all the excitement died down, there was one group (later to become the SDA church) who maintained that the date was correct, but the event was wrong. They came up with the doctrine stating that an "INVESTIGATIVE JUDGMENT" began on October 22, 1844 - when Jesus, as our High Priest, left the Holy Place in the Heavenly Sanctuary and entered the Most Holy Place, where God sits on His throne. There Jesus began judging all the righteous dead, and would soon pass to the living. This would be His final work for our redemption.

The date of 1844 came from Daniel 8:14 (KJV), which says, "Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." Figuring that Daniel's prophecies began in 457 B.C. and adding the 2300 days/years, you come up with 1843/1844.

There are a number of things wrong with this doctrine:

   1. Daniel 8:14 is an answer to the question asked in verse 13, "How long...?"
   2. The word translated 2300 "days" in the KJV is incorrect. The original Hebrew, as the NASB puts it, is 2300 "evenings and mornings" and is related to sacrifices.
   3. "Sanctuary cleansed" in the KJV is better translated, "Holy place restored."
   4. Jesus FINISHED His work of redemption when He said, "It is finished!"
just before He gave up His spirit and died for our sins. John 19:30.
   5. Jesus entered the Holy Place (the Most Holy Place in the earthly sanctuary) and sat down at the right hand of God after His resurrection about 33 A.D. #
   6. There should be no veil in the Heavenly temple since the earthly veil was torn from top to bottom at Jesus' death as related in Matthew 27:51.
Therefore there is now no difference between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place, there is now just the Holy Place where God sits on His throne in Heaven. Hebrews 9:12.
   7. The righteous do not come into judgment. John 5:24.
   8. God already knows His own. 2 Timothy 2:19.
   9. Daniel 7 and Daniel 8 were written at two different times, in two different languages, to two different peoples.
  10. Daniel 8:14 refers to the crisis concerning Antiochus Epiphanes * the result of which was celebrated by Jesus as recorded in John 10:22 and is known today as Hanukkah.

Ellen White says about the 1843/1844 issue:
The Gathering Time
"September 23d, the Lord shewed me that he had stretched out his hand the second time to recover the remnant of his people, and that efforts must be redoubled in this gathering time. In the scattering, Israel was smitten and torn; but now in the gathering time God will heal and bind up his people. ... All should be united and zealous in the work. I saw that it was wrong for any to refer to the scattering for examples to govern us now in the gathering; for if God does no more for us now than he did then, Israel would never be gathered. I have seen that the 1843 chart was directed by the hand of the Lord, and that it should not be altered; that the figures were as He wanted them. That His hand was over and hid a mistake in some of the figures, so that none could see it, until His hand was removed."

A Sketch of the Christian Experience
and Views of Ellen G. White, page 61.1

It appears from this statement that God deceived His people in 1843, and actually encouraged them to set times for Jesus' Second Coming, in direct opposition to His Words spoken in Matthew 24:36, Mark 13:32, and Luke 21:34-36 warning us that NO ONE but God knows the day or hour of Jesus' Second Coming!

In 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 the Bible says the Holy Spirit is the source of spiritual gifts. One of those gifts is the gift of prophecy (1 Cor. 12:10). Therefore, the phrase "Spirit of Prophecy" would seem to apply to the One who gives the gifts--the Holy Spirit--and not to the human recipient of the gift.

The Spirit of God is called by many names in the Bible. In all cases it would be blasphemy to ascribe these names to any human:

Spirit of Wisdom - Isa. 11:2
Spirit of Understanding - Isa. 11:2
Spirit of Counsel - Isa. 11:2
Spirit of Power - Isa. 11:2
Spirit of Knowledge - Isa. 11:2
Spirit of the Fear of the Lord - Isa. 11:2
Spirit of Judgment - Isa. 28:6
Spirit of the Lord - Micah 2:7
Spirit of Grace - Zech. 12:10
Spirit of Supplications - Zech. 12:10
Spirit of God - Matt. 3:16
Spirit of Your Father - Matt. 10:20
Spirit of Truth - John 14:17
Spirit of Jesus - Acts 16:7
Spirit of Holiness - Rom. 1:4
Spirit of Life - Rom. 8:2
Spirit of Christ - Rom. 8:9
Spirit of Adoption - Rom. 8:15
Spirit of the Living God - 2 Cor. 3:3
Spirit of His Son - Gal. 4:6
Spirit of Promise - Eph. 1:13
Spirit of Wisdom - Eph. 1:17
Spirit of Revelation - Eph. 1:17
Spirit of Jesus Christ - Phil. 1:19
         Spirit of Power - 2 Tim. 1:7
         Spirit of Love - 2 Tim. 1:7
Spirit of Grace - Heb. 10:29
         Spirit of Glory - 1 Pet. 4:14
Spirit of Prophecy - Rev. 19:10

A pattern can be seen here. The Bible uses "Spirit of ..." to describe the attributes of God and His Spirit. Thus, the "Spirit of Prophecy" refers to the Spirit of God,

not to any human or any human's writings.

From July 1 through August 1, 1919
Seventh-day Adventist leaders held a Bible Conference
and History Teacher's Council
in Takoma Park, Maryland.
Attendence was by invitation only.

After coming to unofficial agreement on several issues,
General Conference President Arthur G. Daniells
said of the official minutes of their discussions,
"I sometimes think it would be just as well
to lock this manuscript up in a vault ..."
(July 16, 1919 pages 40m - 40n)

Following are excerpts from the August 1, 1919 minutes:

Francis M. Wilcox: "I think we have to deal with a very delicate question, and I would hate terribly to see an influence sweep over the field and into any of our schools that [Ellen White's] Testimonies were discounted. ... There is great danger of a reaction, and I do feel concerned. I have heard questions raised here that have left the impression on my mind that if the same questions are raised in our classes when we get back to our schools, we are going to have serious difficulty. I believe there are a great many questions that we should hold back, and not discuss. ... I think if we destroy faith in them [the Testimonies], we are going to destroy faith in the very foundation of our work."

Pages 3 and 4

Jacob N. Anderson: "... can we hold those things back and be true to ourselves? And furthermore, are we safe in doing it? Is it well to let our people in general go on holding to the verbal inspiration of the Testimonies?"

Page 5

Clifton L. Taylor: "... if we must lay aside what Sister White has said interpreting history, ... as unreliable, and also lay aside as unreliable [her] expositions of scripture, the only natural conclusion for me, and probably for a great many others, would be that the same authorship is unreliable regarding ... every other subject that she ever treated on; - that she may have told the truth, but we had better get all the historical date [sic] we can to see whether she told the truth or not."

Pages 6 and 7

Milton E. Kern: "How can we feel, and believe and know that there is an inconsistency there, - something that is not right, - and yet believe that the spirit of prophecy [Ellen White] is inspired?"

Pages 8 and 9

(Underlined emphasis in original)

(Bold emphasis mine)

[explanations in brackets

The leaders unofficially agreed on the following:

    * Ellen White was not verbally inspired.
    * Ellen White was not infallible as a person.
    * Ellen White was not infallible in her interpretations of the Bible.
    * Ellen White's "health messages" are not blanket regulations for everyone.
    * Ellen White copied from other authors without giving credit to them,
and while claiming to be inspired of God.
    * Ellen White's Divine inspiration is questionable.
    * If Ellen White's writings have to be corrected, how can one claim
the rest of her work was inspired?
    * If the church had told the truth about Ellen White it would not be in the difficulty it is now.

The official records of the 1919 Bible Conference were filed away until they were discovered somewhere between 1974 and 1983 wrapped in paper packages in a vault at the General Conference. The packages contained about 2,400 typewritten pages transcribed from the official notes taken at the meetings. Many of the 2,400 pages were duplicates. There were about 1,300 original pages.

Clifford Scott has in his possession copies of some of the original typewritten pages found on the internet. When reading the White Estate's comments, click the "next" button to read more, remember that Ellen White herself claimed verbal inspiration, and bear in mind that the "fruits" of Ellen White's writings also include a multitude of women who joined the church without their husbands, only to have their husbands soon learn that the pastor told their wives to remove their wedding rings. Many cults require that the adherents leave their spouses. These husbands probably had quite a few questions ...

Does ELLEN WHITE Pass the Test of a TRUE PROPHET?

Following are three Bible tests of a true prophet:

        1. "...when the word of the prophet
        shall come to pass,
then shall the prophet be known,
that the Lord has truly sent him."

Jeremiah 28:9.

A true prophet's predictions all come to pass.

The sections above entitled
"Are They Still Alive"
and "More Confusion"
show prophetic statements that

Test 1. = FAILED.

        2. "To the law and to the testimony:
if they speak not according to this word,
it is because there is no light in them."

Isaiah 8:20.

A true prophet is always in agreement
with what is written in the Bible.

The above sections about:
Sins Blotted Out
Investigative Judgment
are ALL in total disagreement with the Bible.

It is true that Ellen White's writings agree with the Bible most of the time. But you have seen on this website that she does, at times, contradict the Bible. Should one overlook the fact that she contradicts the Bible because the majority of her writings agree with the Bible? Is it okay to mix truth with a small amount of error?

Test 2. = FAILED.

        3. "I did not send these prophets, but they ran:
I did not speak to them, but they prophesied..."
"Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,"
        declares the Lord,
"who steal My words from each other."

Jeremiah 23:21+30.

A true prophet does not
steal their writings from others.

Ellen White's plagiarism is very well documented.
Check the following websites for evidence:

Test 3. = FAILED.

These are only three
of the Bible tests of a true prophet.
A "prophet" need fail only one
to be placed into the "false prophet" category.

Ellen White failed MORE THAN ONE!

"Whatever contradicts God's word,
we may be sure proceeds from Satan."

Patriarchs and Prophets page 55

in 1 Timothy 2:11-12
Paul states,
"A woman must quietly receive instruction
with entire submissiveness.
But I do not allow a woman
to teach or exercise authority over a man,
but to remain quiet."

Bible.org has an in-depth study of this passage
in which the writer makes this statement,
"The woman's being created after man, as his helper,
shows the position of submission that God intended
as inherent in the woman's relation to the man,
a submission that is violated
if a woman teaches doctrine
or exercises authority over a man." *

* bible.org about 1 Timothy 2:11-15

The White Estate's elaborate explanations of
Ellen White's
reminds one of Chaim Potok's
telling of Orthodox Jews going to great lengths
to make all the Talmudic writings agree.

Now it appears there is a new book entitled,
"Specially formulated to address the accusations..."
"Will lift the lingering stains..."

Why do this?

Why not just use the Bible
and the BIBLE ONLY?

A Word About Plagiarism

OK, that's three words.

Plagiarism was recognized as wrong as early as the first century A.D. The word plagiary entered the English language in 1601. It is a derivative of plagiarus which literally means "kidnapper." Roman poet Martial complained that another poet had "kidnapped his verses." The derived word form plagiarism came into the English language about 1620.

"I am just as dependent upon the Spirit of the Lord in relating or writing a vision, as in having the vision. It is impossible for me to call up things which have been shown me unless the Lord brings them before me at the time that He is pleased to have me relate or write them."

Spiritual Gifts volume 2, page 293 (1860)

"In these letters which I write, in the testimonies I bear, I am presenting to you that which the Lord has presented to me. I do not write one article in the paper expressing merely my own ideas. They are what God has opened before me in vision."

Testimonies volume 5 page 67 (1882)

Dr. Fred Veltman conducted the official Adventist research into Ellen White's plagiarism. He stated:

"It is of first importance to note that Ellen White herself, not her literary assistants, composed the basic content of the DA [Desire of Ages] text. In doing so she was the one who took literary expressions from the works of other authors without giving them credit as her sources. Second, it should be recognized that Ellen White used the writings of others consciously and intentionally. The literary parallels are not the result of accident or photographic memory."

This first and fundamental conclusion never fails to elicit a further inquiry as to its implications. Implicitly or explicitly, Ellen White and others speaking on her behalf did not admit to and even denied literary dependency on her part.

Ellen White used a minimum of 23 sources of various types of literature, including fiction, in her writings on the life of Christ.

The study is justified on the basis of Adventist interest - many in the church are asking about her literary dependency. No faith in Ellen White and her writings can be persuasive if it cannot stand the light of truth. Several friends of mine, and 1 am told many others unknown to me, have given up faith in Ellen White's inspiration, if not in Adventism, over this issue. If there are those who find it no longer possible to believe in Ellen White or Adventism, I would prefer that their decision be based upon a proper understanding rather than a misconception.

Question for Dr. Veltman; "How do you harmonize Ellen White's use of sources with her statements to the contrary? Do you think the introductory statement to The Great Controversy constitutes an adequate admission of literary dependence?"

I must admit at the start that in my judgment this is the most serious problem to be faced in connection with Ellen White's literary dependency. It strikes at the heart of her honesty, her integrity, and therefore her trustworthiness.

Wrong Attitudes

Seventh-day Adventists display a wrong attitude towards several topics. Consider the following:

1. Wrong from the beginning.

When Adventism was starting, Ellen White criticized the churches who were following God's Word that says, "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone." This exact verse is listed almost word for word in Matthew 24:36 and in Mark 13:32. (Matthew says "day and hour" - Mark says "day or hour"). Adventists were preaching that Jesus was coming in 1843, then He was coming in the Spring of 1844, then He was coming on October 22, 1844. All these dates were proclaimed in direct opposition of Matthew 24:36 and Mark 13:32. Ellen White's criticism of those who chose to follow the Word of God shows a very wrong attitude.

Adventism has its very roots in Wrong Attitudes.

2. Adventists condemn Sunday keepers.

"When the test comes, it will be clearly shown what the mark of the beast is. It is the keeping of Sunday. Those, who after having heard the truth continue to regard this day as holy, bear the signature of the man of sin, who thought to change times and laws."

Ellen White, Letter 12, 1900.13
Also quoted in the
SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 980.9

"The mark of the beast is the papal sabbath [Sunday], which has been accepted by the world in the place of the day of God's appointment."

Ellen White, Evangelism, p. 234.1

"The mark of the beast is the opposite of this [Sabbath] - the observance of the first day of the week."

Ellen White, Testimonies, vol. 8, p. 117.4

Claiming that someone has the Mark of the Beast is the same as condemning them to the Lake of Fire and the Second Death.

And that goes against the Bible!

In Romans 14:5-6 Paul says, "One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord..." Then in Colossians 2:16 he says, "Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day ..."

Christians must NOT judge others on what day they choose to worship God.

In Hebrews 3:7, 13, 15, and Hebrews 4:7 we are told about a new day replacing the Sabbath. It is called "Today."

It is obvious from these texts that Jesus doesn't care what day you worship Him, as long as it is "Today." And "Today" can be Sunday or Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday or Friday or Saturday!

3. Adventists think they have MORE truth.

I knew of an Adventist who was an extremely strict vegetarian or vegan. When someone informed him that Jesus ate fish, he replied something to the effect, "That may have been true back then. But we have more light now."

This is such a bizarre statement that it made my mouth drop open in utter astonishment! I was speachless!! He was actually saying that he had more light than the Light Giver!!!

But this just demonstrates the wrong attitudes that Adventists have.

4. That ring's Wrong.

Until just recently Adventists did not allow the wearing of wedding rings. "Not one penny should be spent for a circlet of gold to testify that we are married."

Ellen White, Testimonies to Ministers, p. 181

Yet at the same time many many Adventists wore brooches, pins, and watches that cost quite a bit more than a penny. And they drove cars that cost HUGE sums of money. But they didn't spend a penny on a wedding ring! And one can't help but think that somewhere sometime a woman joined the Adventist church, but her husband didn't. And then the next thing this husband knew, his wife was coming home telling him that the pastor told her to take off her wedding ring! The husband could not be held responsible if he thought his wife had joined some crazy cult!

5. Wrong Gospel.

Possibly the worst attitude that Adventists have is that they think they are pleasing God by keeping the seventh-day Sabbath. The Bible tells us differently.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast."

"... all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment"

Isaiah 64:6

Ellen White appears to have been mostly
a sincere person.
However in light of the above documentation,
the following are recommended to the SDA Church:

NEVER mention Ellen White
in any Sabbath morning sermon.

NEVER quote any Ellen White
book, passage, letter, or statement
in any Sabbath morning sermon.

mention anything about Ellen White
in any evangelistic meeting.

Jesus died for your sins.

Jesus is the Judge,
and He knows what it is to be human.

Jesus' death and resurrection
is the ONLY way to Heaven.

Jesus provides this way to Heaven to ANYONE
who believes on Him.

God Created you, and Loves you.

The BIBLE is all you need.

A Day of Rest,
whether it be Sabbath in memorial of Creation,
or Sunday in honor of Jesus' resurrection,
is a delight, not a burden.

Jesus is coming again.

If you love Jesus
you do not need to worry
about whether you will be saved or lost
when He comes again.
(See John 3:16)

Written by Clifford Scott
whose parents, grandparents,
great-grandparents, and great-great-grandparents
were Seventh-day Adventists.

My reasons for writing this website are as follows:

My two daughters have left the church and the faith.
As I tried to deal with this I recalled a quote from Ellen White.
I looked it up. It is found on page 222 in
"Light has been shining in clear and steady rays upon you.
What has this light done for you?
Christ, the Chief Shepherd,
is looking upon you with displeasure,
and is inquiring,
'Where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?'"

After I read that,
I broke down in tears, sobbing, heartbroken.
I was a total failure.
I felt hopeless.
I was in despair.
Jesus was displeased with me.

Fortunately I then remembered a text from the Bible.
Psalms 22:6 says (with gender application)
"Train up a child in the way she should go:
and when she is old, she will not depart from it."

Ellen White left me hopeless, despairing, a failure.
The Bible tells me to wait. There is always hope!!

And if my daughters read this,
I hope you won't read that text in Psalms as meaning
that "when you are old"
you will have to be a Seventh-day Adventist.
I am truly sorry I raised you under the yoke of Ellen White.
Just don't ever forget that Jesus died for your sins!
And that your earthly father loves you
as much as your Heavenly Father does!

My other reason for writing
is so that maybe someone else can discover what I have
before you raise your children under this great burden.

"Now may the God of hope
fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
so that you will abound in hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Romans 15:13
